skhan says: There are so many basic cake recipes out there. Infact, every home baker owns one or two basic cake recipes. I can't think of any other baking product with which you can experiment this much as you can with a Basic Cake Recipe! So Here's mine!

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 125 gms (soft) butter
  • 1 cup (heaping) flour
  • 1 tsp (leveled) baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla flavoring or extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 160 C. Grease and flour one 9 x 9 inch round pan. Sift together the flour, baking powder & salt; set aside.
2. In a large bowl, cream sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time. Mix thoroughly after adding each egg.
3. Finally, stir in vanilla & add the flour mixture into 3 or 4 batches, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
4. Pour batter into the prepared pan.
5. Bake 30 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.


Servings

Makes one 9-inch round cake.
